Met Gala

The year's most exciting fashion event is happening tonight in New York. - The Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute Gala.
The event is sponsored by GAP this year which means many of the glamourous stars are wearing collaborations between the hottest designers and the highstreet label. Gap's creative director Patrick Robinson has worked with labels such as Thakoon, Alexander Wang and Rodarte and others to create gowns based on this year's theme - American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity.
The dresses, to be worn by stars including Jessica Alba, MIA, Kirsten Dunst and Riley Keough, will then be auctioned over the next few days to raise money for the Costume Institute.

I love seeing the mix of designers, models, movie stars, musicians, stylists and editors rubbing shoulders and competing for a place on the best dressed list.
Anyone who is anyone in the world of fashion walks the red carpet up the famous Metropolitan steps.
And unlike most red carpets, designers and stars throw caution to the wind and step out of their comfort zones to experiment with OTT styles and designs.
Here are some of my favourite looks from previous years

This week's best dressed...

Natalie Portman and Diane Kruger both feature quite frequently on my blog, but it's hard not to keep talking about them when they appear to do everything so much better than everyone else.

Natalie Portman showed up to the 9th annual The New York Times Arts & Leisure Weekend in an ochre crepe Rodarte dress. But this wa
s not from the new runway collection - the frothy slip was designed as part of the collection that the Mulleavy sisters produced for American chain Target and is in stores at $39.99. Showing us that you really can look this good on a budget brings a glimpse of hope to us all.

I haven't been able to get my hands on any of the collaborations that Target have produced with some of the top designers of this decade (Stella McCartney, Luella, Zac Posen to name but a few). Anyone in the US fancy taking on my shopping list?!

Diane Kruger. Doing what she does best in Karl Lagerfeld.

I thought this was a print at first but the close up detail shot shows a metal work frame that sits across the bust and shoulders. Teaming it perfectly with a pair of thigh high boots and 'just so' tousled hair Diane always gets it spot on.
